Hi, I’m John.
My love for music started as a young child. I was given the great honour of being “The DJ” at my sisters wedding at age 7. Ok, so it was slightly different back then. I sat there with all the old vinyl stacked up playing them on an classic HIFI system, changing them over on album after album. Everyone was dancing and I was living my best life. As a teenager I brought my first set of turntables and my passion for music grew and grew.
I worked in catering for many years which I enjoyed however it didn’t give me that buzz. I had dreamed of having my own mobile disco business for many years and my wife and mother-in-law encouraged me to go for it. I had surrounded myself with music from all genres for 40 years and I knew it was time to turn my love of music into a career.
A memory to treasure.
My mother-in-law Pat took the delivery of my new DJ equipment at her house and I still remember her excitement to this day. She had already moved everything in her kitchen so I could test my set up. Baring in mind this is my first time setting up the booth, stand, mixer and lighting rig, Pat shouts me from the lounge after ten minutes checking if it’s ready yet as she’s keen for a dance. She then starts heckling me about what music she would like. City Beats Disco had been born for less than an hour and there we are in the kitchen, lighting rig in full motion, sound system pumping and Pat bringing out her best moves to her favourite music Motown. I often look back at that video, it reminds me how much Pat inspired me and the happiness she brought to our lives. Her legacy will always lives on!
